This blog post is all about SEMrush review. I hope that you’ve heard the name as the name, SEMrush, is very popular when it comes to researching keywords.
I love SEMrush very much because I got much value in it. Using the tool, I could make some money within a very short time. From then, I could come to know its awesomeness.
Now is the time to let you know how effective the tool is for researching keywords. Not only is that, you can defeat your rivals by using this tool.
I was like a ship without its radar!
In fact, I wasn’t aware of keyword research when I started my first blog. So, I was writing posts without targeting any keyword for my blog posts.
After many days of writing and publishing a lot of blog posts, I saw that none of my posts were ranking well on SERPs. So, I wanted to figure out the fact about that.
Then, I finally learned that I was doing a great mistake by not researching and targeting keywords. That was the main reason of not ranking my blog posts.
Heard the name of SEMrush, but didn’t know about its greatness still then
At that time, I took advice from some fellow bloggers that I should start targeting those keywords that are easy to rank on top of SERPs.
But how may I target keywords without doing any sort of research? So, I was searching for a decent tool for keyword research.
I found a list of different tools but chose SEMrush because of seeing the most recommended for it. So, I went for the great tool and visited the site of SEMrush.
After that, I visited the site of SEMrush, but I wasn’t able to research any keyword since I was unknown about how to use the tool.
So, I denied the tool and started my blogging the same way as I was doing before in the hope of ranking some of my posts by chance.
However, a few months later, I became hopeless as there was no output from my blogging.
This was the time when I became determined to start my blogging with perfect keyword targeting. So, I went for SEMrush again, but this time, I was completely confident about my success.
Listen, confidence is the most important thing to succeed in anything. Blogging is a great work and to succeed in it, you need great confidence.

I learned how to use SEMrush
When I landed the homepage of SEMrush, I became hopeless to see that I would need to purchase it. The tool isn’t free. At the initial stage of my blogging, it was unlikely to invest money for some online tools.
Soon after that, I became happy to see that the tool also offers a free trial with limited using capability. So, I tried some of my competitors’ blogs with the tool.
I could see different stats of those blogs which gave me a great idea about how to target blog posts so that they can rank soon.
Then, I saw that the blogs had ranked with some easy keywords and from those keywords, they were receiving tons of traffic.
As the tool shows the difficulty level (KD) of any keyword in percentage, it’s very easy to find out whether you should write on a keyword or not.

Then I wrote a 1300-word post on a low KD and high MSV keyword
Seeing the KD and the monthly search volume (MSV), I targeted some low KD and high MSV (monthly search volume) keywords.
From my chosen keywords, I started writing a post on a targeted keyword. I also used some LSI keywords in the first post.
The post was a list of some online tools, so I added some of the affiliate links to it. After writing the complete post, I hit the “Publish” button on my WordPress dashboard.
The post was published and I shared it on different social media channels of mine. I didn’t expect anything quick or magical, but something awesome happened with the first post written on a targeted keyword.
Wow! The post ranked on the first page of Google for multiple keywords
This was the first time when I realized the power of targeting keywords well. I saw that the post ranked with several keywords some of which weren’t targeted by me.
Getting the great result hand in hand within a very short time, I was in love with SEMrush. You can’t imagine how many times I thanked Mr. SEMrush on that day.
Still then, I wasn’t expecting any sale from the affiliate links that were added to the ranked post. In fact, the rank of my post made me forget everything. I was so happy to see my post ranked on the first page of Google.
Amazing! I could sell my first ever affiliate product, 2 times!
The next day was waiting for me with a great surprise. As I told you that I wasn’t expecting any financial gain through the ranking of my post, I didn’t check my Commission Junction account for a few days.
Then, suddenly I checked my CJ account and became dumbfound landing there.
Hurrah! I sold a product through my affiliate link. That means I got my first ever affiliate commission. The product was Grammarly and it was sold twice.
I received $40 for the two sales as an affiliate commission. The amount wasn’t that much, but my happiness was like as huge as the Mount Everest.
Now it’s your turn… (the complete SEMrush review) –
Yes, if you’re still struggling to rank your posts on top of SERPs and make money with your blog, then you can also do something charismatic by using SEMrush.
Now, I’ll show you how to use the great tool and succeed in blogging.
I guess that you’re already a blogger, so you have your own blog now. If you wanna start a new blog, then starting that on iPage (*affiliate link) is the best decision.
Once you’re ready with your beautiful blog, now is the time to research keywords using SEMrush.
Before I show you how to do it in details, here are some of the great features of SEMrush –
- It gives the traffic overview of any site in the most accurate manner.
- The keywords’ difficulty is shown as KD. Seeing the KD of a keyword, you can easily take the decision whether to write on the keyword or not.
- The monthly search volume given by the tool is also very accurate. So, you can easily target the keywords for writing your blog posts.
So, this is the awesomeness of this keyword research tool and you can use the tool for all these reasons.
Here are the steps of winning at your blogging by using SEMrush –
First of all, visit SEMrush (Click Here).
You’ll land the homepage of the tool. The homepage comes up with a wide search box which is this –
You can see that the box is for checking different things such as domain, keyword, and URL.
The right side of the box, there’s an option for selecting area. The pre-set one is the US and you can change as the UK or your required one.
On the top bar of the site, there are some buttons for different things like features, pricing, language selection etc. So, you can use the tool not only in English but also in other languages. There are several languages available on the tool.
Now, come to the main point of this tool which is how to use it. So, I’m showing that right now. TYou have already known that there are three different things that you can check with the tool – domain, keyword or URL.
So, first of all, I’ll show you by dropping a keyword in the box. Suppose that the keyword is “SEMrush review”.
So, write the keyword in the box and then hit the “Start now” button situated on the right side of the search box.
After hitting the ‘Start now” button, you’ll be taken to a new page which will show you the keyword overview.
I’m showing you everything one by one about the keyword overview so that you can learn all the things clearly.
Here’s the first thing that you should consider while researching a keyword –
You can see that the keyword is searched 140 times per month which is shown in “Volume”. So, this is the MSV or monthly search volume of the keyword. I actually don’t target a keyword that’s searched fewer than 1000 times a month.
This is because if you target a keyword that’s not searched a decent number of times, then you couldn’t drive a decent amount of traffic to your blog even if it’s ranked on the first position of Google.
You know that the first positioned post gets around 30% of total traffic, so if you target a keyword that’s searched only 100 times, then your blog will generate only 30 – 35 visitors if the post with the keyword ranks at the first place of Google SERPs.
You can also learn the CPC and the competition of a keyword from the first report. Knowing the CPC of a keyword is very important at the time of using AdSense.
Then, the next portion is to see how many matching keywords are there. Checking this is important because you can find out some good keywords along with the searched keyword.
You can see that you can use both the keywords alternatively to potentially rank your post well on SERPs.
After that, the next part is involved with showing you the related keywords which are as follows –
From this report, you can choose some LSI keywords for your main focus keyword.
Under most of the reports of SEMrush, you’ll see that there are two buttons named “Export” and “View full report” which are for exporting your keywords and viewing the full report in another page respectively.
Here are the buttons –
There’s also the option for checking which sites are on the top of SERPs searched by the specific keyword that you’re checking. Here’s the report for the keyword that I’ve checked to show you in this post –
You can see different sites one by one. You can see up to 20 results at best in the report.
Now, you can check the full report by hitting the “View full report” button. Hitting the button will bring another page which is this –
This is the crucial stage of your keyword research! Why? Because you could come to know your keyword’s KD which means the Keyword Difficulty from this part.
To anyone who wants to rank a post with a specific keyword, learning the keyword difficulty of that keyword is the most important thing.
Look at the right side of the screenshot where you can see the KD of the keyword. It’s 59.71, right? The score is shown out of 100 and you can consider up to 60 a low KD keyword.
That means you can target this keyword if the monthly search volume (140) suites with your requirement. If you can write an in-depth post on this keyword, then it’s likely to see your post at a promising position of Google and other search engines with the keyword.
By this way, you can research any keyword. Look at the KD and the monthly search volume. The more the KD of a keyword is, the tougher to rank a post with that keyword.
So, you should always target lower KDs keywords. That time, you could easily rank your posts. Also, check the MSV (Monthly Search Volume) or just volume of your keywords. Choose a keyword when it’s currently searched a decent number of times.
To me, I prefer those keywords that show low KDs and high MSVs. This way, you can rank your posts easily with these kinds of keywords.
And by ranking your posts, you could also drive more and more traffic to your blog.
Up to this, I’ve shown how to use SEMrush to research a keyword. And now, I’ll show you how to check a site’s performance using the great tool.
To show you this, I’ve brought Problogger.net as the example.
So, put the domain and hit the search or start now button –
It’ll show a complete overview of the domain where the first thing is this, the organic search –
The result shows that the blog, Problogger, receives around 400 organic traffic on a monthly basis. This number is far low than the previous months. The red marked percentage (-96%) with a negative sign shows the decrease of traffic.
If it were an increase of traffic, then you would see a green marked number in percentage.
Maybe Problogger has hit by some updates of Google and for that its performance has been decreased.
You can also check the month-by-month organic traffic of the domain –
The result shows that the blog has been continuously hit by different updates of Google. The “G” marks show the updates at different times.
So, you should always satisfy Google, otherwise, you can see that how the blog has decreased its traffic from over 100K to under 1K only.
I can’t tell you clearly what exactly happened with Problogger, but it’s understandable that something was wrong with it.
There’s another option which is for showing whether the domain is receiving any traffic from paid ads or not. Here’s the report which states that Problogger didn’t any traffic using paid ads last month.
Checking the backlinks using SEMrush is very handy as you can see the total number of backlinks from the report below –
I’ll show you further backlink analysis after I show some other features of SEMrush.
Also, there’s an area based organic traffic distribution report which comes in a graphical pie chart –
Seeing this, you can have a quick idea about the site’s top traffic countries.
After, you can also check the top organic keywords of the site here –
These are the keywords which are at top positions of Google SERPs.
The organic distribution is for showing the number of keywords at different positions –
Other than these reports, there’s also the report of a list of main organic competitors –
The backlink analysis can be taken to the next level by checking some other reports shown on the tool.
You can check different backlinks whether they’re do-follow or no-follow.
Also, you can check different types of backlinks from the report below –
You check the full list of keywords using the “View full report” button situated under the top organic keywords.
If you click the button, it’ll show like this –
The free version of SEMrush will let you see only 10 of the keywords, but with the paid version, you can check all the keywords of a specific domain.
So, to do your keyword research without any limit with SEMrush, you’ll need to buy the premium version of the tool.
There are 3 premium plans (PRO, GURU, and BUSINESS) which are the following –
The prices shown above are for the purchase on a monthly basis.
You can go for a huge discount at the time of buying any of the plans on an annual basis –
Now, it’s up to you how you’ll use the tool for researching your keywords. The tool is an awesome one and if you ask my honest opinion, I’ll place it on the 1st position when it comes to keyword research.
Wish you all the best in your blogging with SEMrush.
